As Wren Kingston, Julian Morris appears sporadically in Rosewood when he’s not off hiding in London with Melissa! However, despite his limited screen time lately, Julian is always on on radar: He’s charismatic, cordial, and a true talent. From dramatic roles to humorous portrayals, this heartthrob knows exactly how to leave viewers craving more! Even if he ends up being “A” on PLL, our crush on him will 100% never fade.
Knowing how to wrap a wound and bringing plants as peace offerings are a couple of the admirable actions Julian has taken on as Wren. But did you know there’s ore to him than meets the eye? Here are 10 fun facts you may not know about this wonderful thespian:
1.) Julian Morris blows out his birthday candles on January 13, 1983, and he actually shares a birthday with Orlando Bloom! Now that’s just too much hotness to celebrate in one day.
2.) His mother was born in Zimbabwe and his father was born in South Africa. He spent a lot of time in both countries growing up along with his younger sister, Amy. Julian is of French, Russian and Southern African descent, and he was born in Britain! Talk about well-traveled.
3.) This hunk is best known for his role in Cry Wolf, a film about high school seniors “who delight themselves on playing games of lies, come face-to-face with terror and learn that nobody believes a liar — even when they’re telling the truth.” So Julian was actually an experienced “liar” before coming to Rosewood as our favorite MD. Speaking of doctors, Julian is also well-known for his role as Dr. Andrew Wade in ER.
4.) Morris began acting at the Anna Scher Theatre in London at age 13, and he trained intensively under Anna Scher for 8 years. After landing multiple roles on the big and small screens, Julian joined the Royal Shakespeare Company, where he spent 3 years of his life.
5.) Julian may a prime suspect in Rosewood, but he’s pretty charming in the fairytale world as Prince Phillip (Sleeping Beauty’s prince). Yep, that’s right: Julian also guest stars in Once Upon A Time!
6.) As Ryan Geauxinue in New Girl, Julian gets to hang out with and even kiss Zooey Deschanel. His character is brought in to replace Jess as a science teacher after her promotion. According to EW, “he will test Jess’s professionalism as a Vice Principal – not to mention her resolve as a woman with functioning eyed and ears – as the colleagues grow closer…” The only bad thing? His favorite scene was cut! Here’s what he told TVLine: “It was a volcano scene. It’s Jess and I teaching together — it was actually my audition scene. We have to make a volcano explode. Of course, it doesn’t work, and then we end up together, and it’s just a metaphor for us having sex. [Laughs] It was so much fun to shoot. It was such a good time.”
7.) He’s half of one of our favorite ships! Without Morris, the Wrencer ship would be sinking. Even he’s all for it! “I can tell you what I would like to happen,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “I would love to see this storyline explored. I would love to see how Spencer and Wren get along given the chance. They do have a good chemistry together and I’d love for the writers to explore that. Return soon, Wren? Something tells me the Liars are going to need an adorable doctor with a British accent after the #BigAReveal.
8.) Did you know that Julian has major comedic chops? Well he does! He’s starred in so many Funny or Die parody videos — including one with Ian Harding — that we’ve actually lost count. Our favorite one though has to be the “Birth Balls” spoof. Prepare to LOL:
9.) If you thought Fifty Shades of Grey was risque, then you clearly haven’t seen Julian in Kelly + Victor. In it, Julian portrays a man who finds himself in a a boundary-pushing relationship that’s equal parts steamy and tender — and rooted in tragedy. “It’s a dark story, and S&M plays a large part,” he revealed during an interview with Mr. Porter. “I took the approach that it becomes like a drug for Victor. Here’s a guy who was born with no opportunities. He doesn’t have the money, the intelligence or the connections to break free, but he needs an escape, and this exciting new experience is where he gets it. Kelly – she’s just the delivery system.”
10.) Even a gifted actor such as Julian has experienced some awkward moments throughout his career! For example? “A reality TV show on making a movie,” he confessed during an interview with Backstage. “It wasn’t about the movie, it was about the reality TV show. They had no clue on filmmaking. And I shouldn’t have even been auditioning for it, but I went along anyway. And I don’t think I gave a bad audition, but they ripped me apart. In the room! I was doing my scene, and they said, “Stop, stop, stop.” And they literally went on for 10 minutes telling me how awful I was. It was ridiculous. And the other thing is, they wanted me to sign a release before I went in to audition. And I didn’t sign it, but if I did sign the release it would have been on episode three of whatever it was. But there were so many. I’ve been asked to take off my clothes for a few auditions, but I didn’t.” It’s good to know that Julian remains sweet and earnest despite such these crazy moments!
